Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Head of Writing, but working with the core book development team leads, the Book Designer will work as part of the interactive books core development team. The applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work well in an evolving company. The successful applicant will have an outstanding work ethic and be able to work efficiently within a team or independently as project needs arise. The ideal candidate is an all-rounder who can effectively multitask on various assignments, shifting easily from creative work, to technical implementation. Project tasks may be delivered as design documents or directives from senior staff, which the Designer will then take away to develop in the interactive book development software.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the book team to develop interactive book applications
  • Work with the team to help develop animation, games, and graphic style for interactive books
  • Collaborate with character art and animation teams to develop book assets
  • Identify book design and illustration needs and help coordinate solutions
  • Concept art, storyboarding, and design documentation as needed
  • Book layouts, cleanups and page/text design
  • Coordinate the book product’s development with team programmers
  • Implement book effects and style in coordination with lore and artistic teams

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Assets:
  • Ability to storyboard using knowledge of camera angles for effective storytelling
  • Experience in Adobe Suite, including Photoshop, After Effects. InDesign and Illustrator and/or Flash are a bonus
  • Some experience with After Effects and/ or Maya
  • Some knowledge of typography and graphic design principles
  • Demonstration any visual art skills in a portfolio (online preferred)
  • Interest in educational and family entertainment genre
  • Interest and awareness of children’s books (print and interactive)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to verbalize artistic vision
  • Self-directed and highly motivated
  • Strong interest in working in a highly collaborative team environment

The exceptional candidate will also have:
  • An understanding of children’s entertainment, including other MMOG, interactive books, and mobile apps
  • Basic to strong fine art or game art skills
  • Skilled with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects
  • Knowledgeable in graphic design programs such as InDesign or Quark
  • Knowledge of 3D animation, including modeling, texturing, rigging and character setup
  • Experience using Unity
  • Multi-platform development experience (PC, console, iOS, Android)
  • Work experience or education in children’s media or art education fields
