Job Description:

Working with and reporting directly to the Head of Writing, you will be responsible for translating the foundational lore and legend story of our IP into the stories, quests, and themes in the game experience. Acting as a key player between lore and publishing and the game component of our brand, you will collaborate across teams from Writing, Lore and Publishing to Game/Content Design. Working in both a creative writing and narrative design capacity, you will help oversee and facilitate the processes of distilling the department’s foundational fiction content throughout the game experience. 

You will be responsible for ensuring that the primary lore of the brand underscores all of the writing in the game world. As a team leader, you will over oversee the implementation of narrative within the gameplay. You will be responsible for writing cinematic scripts, writing character in-game dialogue, developing out characters, quests, story arcs, and utilizing skills in creative writing for children, narrative development, game development, and mechanics of writing for children’s entertainment.

In an administrative capacity, you will work within our studio processes to ensure that all online writing tasks are procured correctly within that system. 

Responsibilities: 
A.    Work closely with Head of Writing to craft the lore into in- game stories and experiences,, including:
•    Games and Mini-Game narratives
•    Avatar Emotes and Customization tie-ins
•    NPC backstory, storytelling and dialogue
•    Quest lines
•    NPC Relationship/Reputation leveling
•    In-game dialogue scripts
•    Cinematic scripts
•    Develop and maintain existing world lore through documentation and updates
•    Expand current world lore with world building. Craft experiences for player exploration, discovery and collections that fit with the game design documentation
•    Creation of in-game events, parties, and activities
•    Character creation and development in lore
B.    Work collaboratively with multiple teams including Game Design, Publishing, Web, Book design and Art to create dynamic trans media story experiences and narrative tie-ins to other products.
C.     Be a creative force within departmental ‘Writing Rooms’, brain-storming cross-content ideas for the online world and book development
D.    Maintain departmental documentation, keeping the Writing space on the Wiki and any lore bibles, style guides, and other documentation up to date and accurate. Initiate regular lore updates to teams for review. 
E.    Act as a service provider for all in-game writing and written content generation, and create, edit, and manage tasks related to facilitating that process. 
F.    Work with Head of Writing to develop a In-Game Writing Style Guide’ that gives specific direction on elements of writing for the game experience. 

Job Requirements:

•    You are a solid, inventive writer, with a passion for writing for children’s trans-media entertainment
•    You are familiar with children’s fantasy and fairytales and have proven experience of writing for children’s media
•    You understand the elements of writing for children online and can adapt your style, tone, and language for a young target audience
•    You understand dynamic dialogue for NPCs and how to create content that feels organic and evergreen within the game world
•    You understand children’s game, and have experience working within a game or interactive studio environment
•    You understand how to translate linear storytelling from book products into a non-linear world through interactive and dynamic writing
•    You understand how to create and enhance a variety of gameplay experiences through writing, tying back to narrative structures of the lore 
•    You have 3+ years of experience writing for children from ages 4-10+
•    You are used to working collaboratively and independently, and are able to produce good creative work in both an independent and group setting
•    You are able to work to tight deadlines, and understand how to produce good quality work under strict timeframes
•    You have a keen understanding of the online children’s trans media entertainment space, including other kids games, apps, books and interactive books 
•    You have an educational background in English, creative writing, children’s writing, writing for film or television, games or a similar discipline from an accredited university
•    You are a skilled and thoughtful communicator, able to work within a team environment to promote the production of quality children’s entertainment
•    You are an enthusiastic leader, with a passion for quality family entertainment, and can pass on that enthusiasm through your interpersonal skills
